Mental health is not a political slur

Mental health is not a political slur

When politics trivialises mental health, everyone suffers. Mental health remains a stark reality, even among children and young adolescents. Recent data indicates that more than one in six people in Malta, roughly 120,000 citizens, live with a mental health condition, with anxiety and depression being the most common.

Il-kwistjoni tal-imwejjed u s-siġġijiet

Qiegħed nipproponi li biex neliminaw din il-frammentazzjoni u jkun hemm ‘management’ aħjar u verament effikaċi, allura għandu jkun hemm One-Stop-Shop li joġbor lil kulħadd u kollox f’entità waħda. My motivations for entering the political field

  • Jan 15, 2015
  • 1 min read

The conviction that I have a responsibility to contribute towards leaving the world a better place;

• The belief that YOU and I together can build a more humane society. TOGETHER we have the power to build a society which is committed to the values of justice, equality and inclusiveness – where no one is emarginated;

• The desire to make a difference in the lives of the people around me;

• The desire to embrace an opportunity to work towards a humane face of politics which has the person at the centre of its endeavours. Each person in society has a value and each person has a contribution to offer. Each person can make a difference;

• The belief that, in society, there needs to be a shift away from the ‘culture of the I’ and opportunism – where any means is acceptable – to the culture of ‘We’ and ‘US’;

Past experience has shown that when I have been given a role of authority and leadership, I have risen to the occasion and honoured the trust shown in me. I have strived to be of service and have firmly put “the person” at the centre of my work. My aim is, together with you, to keep moving in that direction.

The following people have been of particular inspiration to me as I have evolved, both on a personal and a professional level: Francis of Assisi, Mother Theresa, Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, Francesco Gaspari and Robert Schuman.
